This antique Georgian black enamel mourning ring is an absolute delight, and one of the nicest pieces of its kind I’ve seen in a long time. Designed with beautifully detailed garlands, bursting with vine leaves and grapes, along both edges. Vines hold lovely senitment, often used to represent eternal love and also the cyclical nature of life in jewellery design. The central section of the ring is finely detailed with ‘In Memory of Mary Dunstall’ in black enamel and gorgeous gothic lettering. The enamel is in very good condition for its age, with just a couple of minor surface chips in two small places. The band measures 10 mm wide, top to bottom. The hallmarks inside the ring are wonderful, sitting alongside the inscription ‘Obt 4 Feb, y 1831, at 30’. Maker’s mark WE. A beautiful example of Georgian English 18ct gold jewellery.
