Dating to the turn of the 19th and 20th century, this beautiful antique piece fits neatly between the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Claw set with a gorgeous oval shaped sapphire in a very pretty buttercup style setting. The sapphire is a beautiful velvet blue hue and measures 9 mm x 8 mm, estimated to be 2.5 carats. The ring face measures 14 mm x 13 mm. There is an area of colour zoning present in the sapphire and the growth lines are slightly curved, suggesting possible flame fusion process. This may indicate it being a synthetic stone, meaning a real sapphire grown under laboratory conditions. With grooved shoulders and a plain shank. A lovely example of antique high carat gold jewellery.
